Agenda

10:00 AM - Opening/Welcome, representatives from PCPR and LaSalle

10:30 AM - Plenary: Funders’ Roundtable Philadelphia Foundation

Trends in Education Philanthropy will examine the current shifts and emerging practices that are shaping the philanthropic landscape for education funders. Panelists will discuss the evolution of education philanthropy in response to the health and racial pandemics since 2020. This session is designed to provide national and regional perspectives that will inform future trends that can have impact in increasing college bound students that have been historically underrepresented and marginalized in the college access arena.

Afternoon sessions will include:

  • 1:15 PM - 2:00 PM College Access and Success Indicators and College Access and Success 101: the importance of Training and Professional Development with  Bill Debaun
Organizations doing things just for kicks or because they’ve always done them that way should stop doing both of those things and instead pursue a pathway where practice meets purpose. This session will examine how and why organizations do what they do and how they measure what comes from that. Data doesn’t have to be a four-letter word, instead it can help us affirm that what we’re doing is helping to move the needle for students.
  • 1:15 PM - 2:00 PM - Supporting First Generation Students with Juliet Curci
Temple University College of Education and Human Development is currently hiring for the Assistant Directors of the Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science TRIO programs. The Temple UB and UBMS college access programs serve Philadelphia high school youth in grades 9-12 in weekday after-school, Saturday, and summer programming on Temple's Main Campus that supports participants' academic growth, college preparation, and career readiness. To see complete job descriptions and to apply, visit Temple's HR website. Questions can be directed to Dr. Juliet Curci at juliet.curci@temple.edu

  • 2:15 PM - 3:00 PM - Nonprofit Business Minded: “An Entrepreneur Prospective” with Michelle Snow
Create multiple streams of income for your non-profit organization with grassroots initiatives. Major funding, annual events and large donors are no longer the only solution to maintain your entity. A charitable organization is a business with a unique classification. Let's talk about the business behind the charity. We'll create initiatives and solutions to drive revenue to your new or growing organization. Ask questions, be inspired, and grow together!
  • 2:15 PM - 3:00 PM The Scholarship Market: Mining and Delivering Scholarships Appropriate for Your Students with Jody Markley
How institutions define, award, and package scholarships can be very confusing, which too often translates into students not receiving the maximum financial aid for which they may qualify.  Join me to learn about the different types of scholarships awarded by colleges and universities and the various factors that can affect scholarships and how they are packaged and awarded.  The goal:  helping students and families through scholarship advocacy and assisting them in making the most informed choices about their higher education journey.

  • 3:15 PM - 4:00 PM - The Scholarship Displacement Journey with Zaniya Lewis - In-Person Attendees Only

  • 3:15 PM - 4:00 PM - Key Skill Hub (Philadelphia Foundation) with Leo Otting
Need help planning a board strategy session or updating your organization's website? Maybe you could use technical expertise on your policy and procedures manual or graphic design services to bring your fundraising materials to life? These are just a few of the exciting ways more than 600 regional nonprofits have benefited from the expertise offered through Philadelphia Foundation's Key Skills Hub, powered by Catchafire. The resource functions simply: you share your project needs with professional consultants looking to volunteer their time and expertise, and they work with you to bring your project to fruition...pro-bono!
